- What is a domain name?
A domain name is essentially a signpost on the Internet. Every
website you've ever been to, and every email you've ever composed,
has used a domain name in its address. People register domain
names in order to 'stake a claim' to a particular name -- whether
for business or personal reasons. Once a domain name is registered
to a person or company, it is that person's to use exclusively
as long as they continue to pay the yearly renewal fee. Our domain

- Why does pricing of domain names differ from registrar to registrar?
EyeonDomain.Com is an direct authorized reseller of OpenSRS. OpenSRS is a domain registrar that competes with other domain
registrars (Network Solutions, Register.com, etc.) in the domain
name market. The Domain Registration Monopoly which used to belong to Network Solutions, who originally charged $50 per domain, then reduced it's cost to $35 per year per domain no longer exists. Due to recent demonopolizing of the market, other companies were invited to compete with Network Solutions for domain name registrations. Hence different Registrars established their own pricing models. There is no longer a set price one Registrar has to charge. The free market now established pricing structure that passes the savings on to our customers.

- What's the difference between an Eyeondomain.Com/OpenSRS registered domain
name and a Network Solutions (NSI) registered domain name?
The difference is clear - PRICE - otherwise there's no difference between a name registered with Eyeondomain.Com/OpenSRS and
a name registered with Network Solutions. Network Solutions is
currently better known because they ran the first domain registration
business without competition for a number of years and higher priced because they have tremendous overhead and staff numbers to maintain.

- Registry? Registrar? Registrant? What do these words mean?
Registrar: A "Registrar" (or "Domain Name Registrar") is
an organization like OpenSRS or Network Solutions that has control
over the granting of domains within certain TLDs (top level domains,
like the generic .com/.org/.net or country-specific .ca/.us/.mx
etc.).
Registry: The 'Registry' is the backend that registrar's
have shared access to. Each registrar writes new names to a central
registry database, from which the authoritative root (essentially,
a table of all domain names on the Internet) is built.
Registrant: A registrant is the person or company who purchases
a domain name. For example, Jessica Smith (registrant) registers
the name jessicasmith.com through OpenSRS (registrar) who in turn
writes the name to the central database (Registry).

- Do you provide money back guarantee?
We are a service provider to facilitate registration of your domain. Same as Network Solutions or Other Registrars, we do not offer money back guarantee on domain names you register. Same as Division of Motor Vehicles does not offer money back guarantee if you purchase vanity license place. Once you register a domain, you have reserved this domain for your exclusive use and hence are responsible for payment which covers processing of your domain registration. We provide money back guarantee for those rare cases when your domain name registration does not finalize, in those rare cases when 2 persons attempted to register the same domain name at the same time. (Please see questions below with further information on those cases).

- What is the difference between Free Domain Parking, Free Domain Forwarding, DNS Hosting and Web Hosting?
- Free Domain Parking is part of our service if you register your domain with us, available to you at no extra cost. This means that your domain name will be parked on our servers and display a parked page, such as http://www.webcops.net. The look and feel of the "parked" page remains the same for all websites parked on our servers. You do not have the ability to customize the look of the page or upload your own web page in that web space.
- Free Domain Forwarding is also available free of charge if you register or transfer/renew your domain with us for at least 2 years, as long as we forward less than 100 visitors per day per domain. If you exceed this limit, we'll be happy to offer DNS Hosting for your consideration. If you have a free web space on some other server, we will forward visitors to your domain name to your other web space. After you register your domain with us, just LOGIN TO MANAGE DOMAIN and enter your forwarding request - stating to forward from what domain name to what web address. (example: forward from xyzdomain.com to members.aol.com/~myfreewebspace ). There are no banners, no frames, no intermediate clicks or advertisements attached to our free forwarding service.
- DNS Hosting means we route your web visitors to your own web server where your website resides and appears under that domain name. For example, you might have DSL or Cable internet connection with your own IP address and web server software on your computer that will be serving your website. Our servers will manage DNS routing to your web space and your email. If you have a domain registered with us and use our DNS servers as your primary and secondary DNS server, we offer DNS hosting service for $45.00 per year. - Web Hosting means you have a full access to your web space, you can upload your web pages, see visitor statistics to your own site and manage every aspect of your site, including email addresses at your domain name. Our hosting plans start at $20.00 per month. We do not host any adult, illegal, spam or objectionable websites. As a responsible corporate host, we do not offer "free" or "deeply discounted" hosting packages - and for a good reason. By being selective which clients we host, eliminating spam, adult, objectionable sites, WE PROTECT ALL OF OUR CLIENTS ON OUR SERVERS from being banned from search engines. See this quote taken directly from one of the largest and most important Internet search engines COMBATTING "SPAM" : by Altavista "If being found via search engines is important to your business, be very careful about where you have your pages hosted. There are hosting companies who will offer to host your site cheaply. At first it looks like a great deal, saving 5 bucks a month! Savvy business owners understand that spending few more dollars per month to guarantee that their site will not suffer by being down due to insufficient infrastructure of a hosting service that cannot afford to maintain their equipment because they charge too little or being banned from search engines because their host unscrupulously placed an adult or spam site on the same web server.

- I registered my domain, but when I look it up in search, it still shows available.
Central Internic database updates are usually performed once a day, but sometimes it takes up to 3 days. Until the central database is updated, your domain will show as being available, however it is registered, and CAN NOT be reserved by another person. Because of the delay in the Internic database updates, occasionally someone will register a name, and before the database is updated, someone else attempts to register that same name. Because the database has not recorded the first registration, the attempt by the second person appears to go through. When the database is updated, it is the first person who will receive the domain name, not the second. This only happens rarely, but we have seen it happen with only a few minutes between registration attempts by different parties. If you are the first person, you never know about the second attempt. If you are the second, it becomes very disappointing.

- Who does a registered name actually belong to, the end user
or the Registration Service Provider?
Domain names are not truly owned -- they're leased out on a first-come,
first-served basis, and remain with the initial lessee until either
a) the lessee does not renew the name, or b) a business with a
trademark of the same name demonstrates a greater claim to the
name than the lessee can demonstrate. The question is better phrased
as 'who can control the domain name'. With Eyeondomain.Com/OpenSRS, the answer
is the domain's Administrative Contact. This is usually specified
by the registrant during the registration process.

- How much control do domain owners have over their domain
once they've signed up through an OpenSRS Registration Service
Provider?
Domain owners, in general, have full control over their OpenSRS
registered domain names. This means that the domain owner has
the power to:
a) Change admin/technical and billing contacts for the domain.
b) Change ownership of the domain.
c) Change the nameservers that are authoritative for the domain.
d) Create sub-users and enable them to change some/all of the
options in a, b and c above.
e) Change the password that enables a, b, c, and d above.
As an end-user, it's unlikely you'll care to bother with such
details.

- I heard the "WHOIS" at Internic is not in real time. How
is this different from the WHOIS function at OpenSRS?
WHOIS is a tool that permits people to access information about
a particular domain name. Internic updates their WHOIS data twice
every 24 hrs. This means the data it presents isn't as up-to-date
as it could be. For example, if a domain name has transferred
ownership, it's possible this fact wouldn't be available to you
for up to twelve hours. In contrast, with regard to names we host,
OpenSRS WhoIS information is updated in real time. If you need
to be certain that your domain name information is correct, we
recommend you use the OpenSRS WHOIS.

- What's the difference between .com, .net, .org domain names?
Originally, the three letter extensions after the dot (or Top
Level Domain/TLD) were meant to denote whether the domain name
was being used for business (.com) charity/non-profit (.org) or
for a technology based company (.net). However, with the explosion
of the Internet (and specifically, the world wide web) as a new
business medium, the lines were blurred, and companies and individuals
alike started cross-registering domains (ie. Me.com, me.net, me.org)
just to protect their interests. Now, .com, .net, and .org names
(the generic Top Level Domains) can be used for any purpose.

- I registered a domain name, but now Internic whois lookup says that someone else has registered it. What happened?
Because updating of the central registration database at Internic is not in real-time (see preceding FAQ), it is possible for two people to register the same domain name within a short period of time, and then the registration will be awarded to the person who actually submitted the registration first. With many different registrars all updating the database, the only way to know whether you have the registration for certain is to await the database update. If you do not end up retaining the registration of a domain name, charges are refunded to you. This occurs very rarely, but does occur.
